Bob learned leadership and ethical conduct as an officer in the USAF after earning an engineering degree near the top of his class. After additional training to qualify for lay ministry, he worked for two not-for-profit hospital associations. Bob returned for his masters in management science and became one of the pioneers in hospital management engineering. During this time he served three years on the board of HMSS and published several of his 20+ articles and papers. He also taught as an adjunct associate professor.

Success in consulting led to two different stints as a hospital COO and provided far deeper appreciation of the issues and challenges faced by line managers. During this era Bob joined ACHE and eventually earned fellowship status. But Bob became convinced that he could make the greatest impact as an operations improvement consultant. The next 20 years at excellent firms like Ernst and Young (where he was promoted all the way to Principle) and serving as a solo consultant honed both technical and relational skills. They also provided the depth and breadth of experience to work one-on-one with hospital executives to execute internal transformation strategies

Bob’s consulting engagements blend mentoring, process innovation, performance management solutions, and implementation support so client organizations achieve BOTH improved patient care and bottom line outcomes. Bob’s 45 years of health care experience spans disciplines like operations reengineering, strategic visioning, organizational innovation, supply chain optimization, post-merger efficiency, management development, performance optimization, and realizing benefits from software investments.

Formal education includes a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1960 and an M.S. in Management from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute in 1970.
